We used this urn for a burial at sea from a cruise ship. The cruise ship personnel told us that sometimes the ashes blew back from the container. The ashes remained in the urn and the urn held its shape. The urn bobbed along in the wake of the ship as far as we could see. It was lovely.

I recently lost my fiancee to cancer. I purchased this product to honor his request of being put to rest in the ocean. It was a high quality yet beautiful urn. Biodegradable Urn: Journey Earthurn Aqua
The journey biodegradable urn is perfect for lake, river or ocean water burial. It's engineered to float momentarily and then gracefully sink. Once submersed, the urn will break down rapidly, gently releasing the ashes into the water. The urn includes a water-soluble plastic bag which secures the ashes when dry and dissolves quickly when wet. The urn can be opened and resealed for scattering some or all of the ashes prior to laying on the surface of the water. Each urn is handmade using a centuries-old papermaking technique in which the bark from the mulberry tree is harvested without harming the tree.
